Summary.
The digital divide most affects marginalised people with reduced access to ICTs due to a lack of capacity, finances or infrastructures. Overcoming this divide through digital inclusion is mostly about enabling social inclusion – using technology as a vehicle to improve skills, enhance quality of life, drive education and promote economic wellbeing for all of society. The imperative of digital inclusion is both a technological issue and a human development concern: ensuring those already disadvantaged by poverty, hunger and disease do not face further marginalisation through exclusion from new technologies. Enabling digital inclusion is beyond the scope of any single initiative or organisation. It requires a pooling of resources and experiences.
